A1 Pharmaceuticals Plc commenced sponsorship of young people in North Kent doubles leagues in October 2006, this included gym membership, mentoring, GCSE/A-Level tutoring. In six years of sponsoring and managing team tennis in North Kent & Sussex leagues, our mens 1 tennis teams have only suffered six defeats in over 100 competitive matches. There is an emphasis of encouraging and nurturing some of A1 Pharmaceuticals core principles and values, tenacity, determination, goal orientation and competitive spirit within a strong team culture.
Our two biggest success stories have been the career development of one our young players, Demetri Louizou at A1 Pharmaceuticals. Demetri commenced playing tennis for A1 Pharmaceuticals sponsored tennis teams when only 14. After team tennis matches, Gary Lewis would tutor him in the sciences. Demetri quickly climbed from an average student to achieving distinction in his GCSE/A-Level exams, he admirably works 16 hours a week for A1 Pharmaceuticals while studying full time for a degree in Business studies
Our greatest success on the court is undoubtedly former pro 37 year old Jason Barnett, who since his sponsorship by A1 Pharmaceuticals has climbed six places last week to World No3 singles 35 and over, after winning the Ali Bey international in Turkey on 31st March. He also climbed to World No4 mixed doubles, along with mixed doubles tennis partner and co-founder of A1 Pharmaceuticals Plc, Carmen Lewis.
Jason has been a loyal supporter of A1 Pharmaceuticals sponsored Devonshire Park mens 1, he is undefeated in competitive team singles for the club, with 17 consecutive victories.
When our founder and Managing Director Gary Lewis took over the reins of Devonshire Park team tennis in 2009 their mens 1 was mid-table Sussex summer division 12 (15 divisions). Working together as a team Gary Lewis and Jason Barnett have developed a team that in only 3 years has returned to division 1 after an absence of over 50 years.
Jason Barnett is probably the only fully funded ITF senior (35 & over) tennis player in the world, he is managed and mentored by Devonshire Park team manager and Managing Director of A1 Pharmaceuticals, pharmacist Gary Lewis.
One of Britain’s top psychiatrists and sports psychologists, Harley Street practitioner and keen tennis fan, Professor Raj Persaud has kindly offered his services free of charge with the goal of guiding Jason Barnett to become the first Briton to achieve a No1 world ranking in mens senior ITF (35 & over).
