National champions A1 Pharmaceuticals LTC will again defend their title for the 3rd successive season at the Aegon Team Tennis National Open Finals 8th – 10th September 2017.
A1 Pharmaceuticals men’s 1 have reached their 4th consecutive national tennis club team finals, which will be contested by the top 8 men’s and women’s teams of over 6000 throughout the UK.
A1 Pharmaceuticals LTC have claimed a record of hat trick of titles (2014, 2015 & 2016) in the men’s event with the experienced team of Marcus Willis, Neil Pauffley, Toby Martin, Peter Bothwell and Matthew Short. The Kent club are now bidding to stretch their national record to 4 consecutive titles at the beautiful West Hants club. The Bournemouth club will again host the finals on green clay commencing with the national quarter finals on Friday 8th September with the winner and runner up decided on Sunday 10th September 2017. The event is free and spectators are welcome with play commencing each morning at 10am.
A1 Pharmaceuticals recently qualified for the 2017 finals in an August playoff which was a repeat of last years quarter final match v Lady Bay tennis club with a comfortable 4 -2 win.
Captain Gary Lewis was quoted as saying that with 3 of our championship team available Neil Pauffley, Peter Bothwell, & Matt Short I decided to give one of our promising juniors Jathom Tonge-Bobia the unique experience of competing at this level in what was challenging National playoff final. Although Jathom struggled in the singles he came close to emulating his brothers’ doubles win with Matt Short and the experience will stand him in good stead for the Regional tier in 2018.
Gary went on to say; that it’s already been a very successful season with our men’s 2 (Lamar Bartley, Sam Hutt, Sam Bossem, Piers Herfect-Jones & Lucas Percy) winning the Kent County title and incredibly the inter county playoff against the very talented Middlesex champions Chandos at the first attempt.
This means that A1 Pharmaceuticals now have uniquely two men’s teams in the National/Regional tier of British club league tennis. Gary said that this will enable us to increase the number of nominated players (LTA rating of 1.1 – 3.2) from 12 to 21 which is great news for the squad and loyal players like Sam Taylor who narrowly missed out on selection in 2017.
We are looking forward to the challenge of stretching our National club league record to 4 consecutive titles. Although we expect very tough competition from former National club champions Raynes Park (2012 & 2013), Sutton tennis & squash (2011) and Macintosh (Wales) who have all strengthened significantly in 2017.
Congratulations to all our players, their parents, partners, coaches also our A1 Pharmaceuticals employees who with Carmen Lewis’s full support makes the sponsorship and successful management of the team possible. It’s already been a successful season reaching our 4th National finals and Men’s 2 winning the Kent County title and promotion to the Regional tier any further success this season will be considered to be the icing on the cake.« Back to News
